Antonio Conte’s long-time collaborator has reportedly uttered a phrase that has fuelled the idea he could end up at AC Milan or Juventus.

There have been stories in recent weeks from various sources suggesting that Conte could leave Napoli when the season ends because of differences in ambitions for the future. Thus, the rumours about potentially joining Milan have ramped up once again.

Conte’s assistant fuels rumours

As revealed by the newspaper La Verità (via Calciomercato.com), Gabriele Oriali – who worked with Conte at Inter and with the national team – apparently told some friends in Milan and Coverciano: “This time I can’t go where he goes.”

The paper defines Oriali as Conte’s trusted team manager, and the coach cannot imagine any adventure in Italy without him. None except one: a return to Juventus that the Bianconeri fans dream of and the Neapolitan fans fear.

The rivalry between the Juventus and Inter – from which Oriali comes first as a footballer and then as a manager – is too great to even think of sitting on the Juventus bench next to Conte. Oriali could not and would not join the Bianconeri, being a symbol of the Nerazzurri for more than 40 years.

This also applies to AC Milan, because Oriali would not even consider going there, again for obvious reasons of historical rivalry. Everything hangs on that phrase of Oriali, everything revolves around Conte’s decisions.

First, there is history to be written with Napoli , who are one point ahead of Inter with two games left. In the meantime, Juventus are busy fighting for the Champions League (if they win against Udinese and Venezia they are sure to qualify), while Milan face Bologna in the Coppa Italia final.

What about Napoli? According to La Verità, Aurelio De Laurentiis’ number one objective in the event of Conte’s departure would be Massimiliano Allegri.
