Real Madrid are the reigning kings of Europe and of Spain. However, the club president Florentino Perez has big dreams of his own.
Unsatisfied with the distribution of television revenue by domestic leagues and the lack of freedom clubs have, the president planned to start an autonomous competition called the UEFA Super League.
Several clubs initially supported the development but later backed off after UEFA formed a force against the idea. Yet, it remains Perez’s dream to cut off Real Madrid from the Spanish league and play in a competition independent of governing bodies.
Speaking at a media appearance earlier today (h/t AS), La Liga president Javier Tebas opened up on Real Madrid’s UEFA Super League project, Florentino Perez’s objective to leave La Liga and change the entire system of television revenue.
He first began by stating that it was categorically ‘impossible’ for Los Blancos to leave La Liga, saying,
“It’s a trick, it’s impossible and they know it themselves. There is a sports law that states that Spanish clubs must play in national competitions as a requirement.”

“It confirms the plan they are following. Which league will they go to?” he added.
He then called Florentino Perez’s dream project a mission to ‘destroy’ national leagues and the detrimental effect it would have on football.
“There is a narrative here to destroy the national league,” noted Tebas.
“If all the clubs had their own [television] broadcasts, it would be hell,” he added.
Finally, the league president admitted that the refereeing system in Spain could improve and also gave his two cents on the Negreira links with Barcelona.
“The refereeing system can be improved, but the Spanish league is not rigged.”
“When the Negreira case came out, a meeting was held with the clubs and they considered changing the system so that it would not depend on a single organization, a meeting that Real Madrid did not attend,” he added.
