Germany U21s remain on course for the EURO after a 5-1 win over Israel, while a Frankfurt striker is set to make an unexpected debut for France U21s.

Good news for Hugo Ekitiké on Thursday morning – after an injury to Arnaud Kalimuendo, France’s U21 coach Gérald Baticle has decided to call up the Eintracht striker for the EURO qualifiers against Bosnia Herzegovina and Slovenia. For 22-year-old Ekitiké, it would be his debut at that level after winning six caps for the U20s.

Also in qualifying for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship next summer, Germany’s youngsters continued their progress on Wednesday with a 5-1 win over Israel, played in Győr in Hungary. The victory saw them extend their lead at the top of the group to four points over Poland. Ansgar Knauff came on in the 59thminute, replacing VfB Stuttgart’s Nick Woltemade, and went on to score the final goal in the fourth minute of added time. Nathaniel Brown was an unused substitute.
