Tension behind the scenes never seems to be too far away when Lazio are concerned.

And that is currently the case with midfielder Alberto, reports Il Messaggero.

The 31-year-old has had a turbulent couple of years at the Stadio Olimpico. But he extended his contract with the Biancocelesti until the end of June 2027 this season.

Alberto is undoubtedly a very important player for Lazio.

However, there has been some uncertainty about his status in the team. And the broader chaos that has engulfed the team has hardly helped the situation.

Lazio changed coaches from Maurizio Sarri to Igor Tudor this spring.

And according to Il Messaggerio, the has been tension with midfielder Alberto in recent weeks.

Luis Alberto Out Of Lazio Squad Vs Empoli – Doubt For Inter

The situation with Alberto reached the point where the Spaniard was not part of Lazio’s squad for today’s Serie A clash against Empoli, a match which the Biancocelesti won 2-0.

The reason for this was not any injury on the part of the former Liverpool and Sevilla midfielder.

Rather, Il Messaggerio report, the issue concerned the mood in training, where there had been a clash between Alberto and his coach.

Therefore, Tudor decided not to call Alberto up for today’s match.

Naturally, this raises big questions about the 31-year-old’s future at the club.

Il Messaggerio report that the Biancocelesti would accept offers of around €10-15 million for Alberto, despite the fact that his contract runs for three more years.

There is interest from the Qatar Stars League. Alberto’s former club Sevilla would also be keen to bring the Spaniard back.

And in the meantime, Il Messaggerio reports, it is hardly certain that Alberto will be back in the squad for next Sunday’s match against Inter.

That match at the San Siro will be Lazio’s penultimate match of the season.
