FC Barcelona started the 2024-25 season without some of their highly important players, including Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, and Gavi, and then saw several other players suffer serious injuries in the first phase of this season, including Andreas Christensen, Marc Bernal, and Marc Andre Ter Stegen.
However, most of these players have returned to action, or are expected to return in the coming few weeks.
Frenkie de Jong and Gavi have already made their returns to the pitch, while Ronald Araujo has already been a part of the squad for the last two games, but is yet to make his return to the pitch. Similarly, Christensen is also expected to return to availability in January.
But in their last game against Leganes, which ended in a defeat for the Blaugranes, there was another injury concern for Barcelona. Lamine Yamal, who had recovered from another injury only a few weeks ago, had to endure a crunching tackle early in the game.
Although he was able to remain on the pitch until the 70th minute, it was quite clear that he was not in his best shape, and he was replaced with Barcelona still chasing the game.
Detailed tests were carried out on him today, and according to Mundo Deportivo, the youngster is suffering from a grade 1 injury to the anterior intertibio-fibular ligament. With this injury, he is expected to miss the next 3-4 weeks of action.
Thus, Yamal will miss the upcoming crucial game against Atletico Madrid, and will not play again in 2024. Luckily, he will have the Christmas break to recover, but his return for the Copa del Rey tie against Barbastro on January 3rd is also ruled out.
The earliest he can return is for the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, when Barcelona face Athletic Club on January 8th. With Yamal already having faced problems with his ankle recently, the Catalans will be especially careful with his return.
