Kevin De Bruyne has confirmed he will continue playing football at another club after he departs Man City at the end of the season.
The midfielder will end his decade-long relationship with the Premier League champions and become a free agent when his contract expires in the summer.
Injuries have reduced De Bruyne‘s playing time and affected his form over the past year, but despite his physical problems he has no intention of hanging up his boots just yet.
Speaking to TNT Sports after leading Man City to a 5-2 win over Crystal Palace at home on Saturday, the 33-year-old says he does not know where his future lies but wants to play on.
“It’s been a hard year, having a hernia wasn’t fun, but now I’ve been pain-free for the last six weeks and that’s a massive difference; playing with pain or not… But now I feel free, I’m able to do a lot of training, and I feel I can do a good job,” he told TNT Spor.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen but I want to play on, so we’ll see where I can end up.”
De Bruyne added that whatever decision he makes next, it has to be the right one for him family.
“I don’t know how I’m going to feel [when I leave Man City],” he said. “I’ve been here so long, my family has been here for 10 years, my kids were born in Manchester, lived their whole life here.
“It’s going to be something different for them. I think they’re a bit scared, excited, but it’s a bit of an unknown because we don’t know what’s going to happen for the moment.
“But I want to enjoy, play good football like I did today, and for the rest, I’ll be fine. If I can play football and my family is happy, I’m good.”
It’s been an underwhelming campaign thus far for Man City and De Bruyne, but the Belgium international could leave the club with one last trophy if they reach this season’s FA Cup final.
“That would be brilliant,” he said. “To be in the semis again is great, we play Nottingham [Forest] who have done really well. But we’re going to try and give it our best shot of winning, and that would be really nice.”
Man City went two goals down on Saturday afternoon, but De Bruyne inspired a comeback win after scoring his side’s first goal from a direct free-kick in the 33rd minute.
Omar Marmoush found an equaliser just moments later and De Bruyne laid up Mateo Kovacic for the lead shortly after the interval. Youngsters James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly both got on the scoresheet to complete a brilliant performance from City.
