Manchester United have today rejected a £40 million bid from Napoli for Alejandro Garnacho.

The Serie A leaders first established their interest in the Argentine livewire last week when it became apparent that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia wanted to leave the club this month. Viewed as an ideal successor, they instantly shortlisted Garnacho.

Now that the 23-year-old is waiting to put pen to paper on a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli have their sights firmly set on United’s academy graduate.

What’s perhaps come as a surprise to the Old Trafford faithful is that in the Mirror’s report, they claim Garnacho is ‘keen to leave’ United after learning of Napoli’s desire to welcome him to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Why Garnacho may be swaying towards Old Trafford exit

Only a week ago did TBR Football disclose the forward’s frustrations at having to adjust to a reduced role under Ruben Amorim, with Amad Diallo now the boss’ favoured option to play alongside Bruno Fernandes in his newly-implemented system.

Last Sunday, Garnacho made his first start in six matches due to Amad nursing a slight injury setback. He proceeded to repay Amorim’s faith by setting up Bruno Fernandes with a spectacular pass to open the scoring at the Emirates.

Amorim then advised Garnacho – indirectly – of how he could improve his game when speaking to reporters this week, saying: “He has talent. He needs to learn to play a little bit in a different position. He needs to play better inside.

“He improved a lot in the recovering position when he doesn’t have the ball, but, doing that, sometimes he’s not in the right place to make transitions, like he was in the past, because I prefer to defend and then build up with all the team to make the final third.“

Nonetheless, United are preparing to play ‘hardball’ in negotiations with the Naples outfit. They will not accept any cut-price offers and value the youngster in the region of £60m.
