Keating named December’s Etihad Player of the Month | OneFootball

Congratulations to Khiara Keating, who has won December’s Etihad Player of the Month award.

The goalkeeper fought off competition from team-mates Leila Ouahabi and Aoba Fujino to claim her second Player of the Month prize for the year, having also won February 2024’s vote.

She was presented with the award following an open training session at 321 Hudayriyat Island in Abu Dhabi as part of City's warm weather training camp.

Keating featured in three of City’s four matches across the month, as we signed off for 2024 with wins over Leicester and St Polten and defeats to Everton and Barcelona.

Gareth Taylor’s side currently sit second in the league and secured qualification for the Champions League knockout stages but were hampered by injuries as the Christmas break approached.

But while the Blues were edged out in each of our final two matches, Keating was perhaps City’s standout performer in both fixtures.

On Merseyside, she made a string of impressive saves to maintain the visitors’ hopes of a comeback, denying Toni Payne and Katja Snoeijs in particularly impressive fashion.

The following week and Keating’s fine form between the sticks continued against Barcelona, excelling against the reigning European champions.

Despite a 3-0 defeat, the 20-year-old made a remarkable 14 saves across the 90 minutes, commanding her penalty box with a maturity far beyond her years.

Keating also registered a clean sheet in our first match of December, as City ran out 4-0 winners against Leicester at the Joie Stadium thanks to a Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw brace plus further goals from Jess Park and Mary Fowler.
