Moise Kean bagged a brace to spark the Italy comeback from 3-0 down to hold Germany 3-3, even if it wasn’t enough to stay in the Nations League. ‘It was important to show a different attitude.’

The Nazionale knew their chances were very slim of progressing to the Final Four after a 2-1 first leg defeat at San Siro.

It became impossible after a disastrous first half performance in Dortmund, going 3-0 down to a Joshua Kimmich penalty, Jamal Musiala making the most of a quickly-taken corner that caught everyone napping, and the usual Tim Kleindienst header.

It was a completely different match after the restart, Kean scoring twice and Giacomo Raspadori converting a penalty, losing the Nations League quarter-final 5-4 on aggregate.

“It was important to show a different attitude. We could’ve done better in the first half, but the important thing was to fight back after the break,” Kean told RAI Sport.

“We wanted to win the game, we didn’t manage it, but I am satisfied with my performance.”

Why was the first half performance from Italy so incredibly bad in Dortmund this evening?

“It wasn’t easy, because Germany are an excellent team. We tried to give our best, they found spaces and managed to attack us better,” continued the Fiorentina striker.

“In the second half, we needed to play with a different spirit, we achieved that and wanted to bring home the result. Next time will be better.”

Does that also mean they will learn from the humiliating goal conceded on a quick corner, where everyone turned their backs on the move?

“We got distracted, it can happen to concede goals like that. We’ll work better on it next time,” assured Kean.
