Juventus are ready to reprise the negotiations for some renewals, especially those of Federico Gatti and Weston McKennie, after putting everything on hold because of the coaching change and to pursue a top-four finish, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs.
The Bianconeri reached an agreement in principle with the former a while ago, but it wasn’t finalized. The new expiration date will be 2030, with a decent pay bump. He’ll return in mid-May from his fibula microfracture. On the other hand, the extension doesn’t guarantee he’ll stay for the long haul. Considering he joined for just €7.5M from Frosinone, a €25/30M offer would be hard to turn down for the management. Napoli, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest have shown interest.
While Gatti has a few years on his present Juventus contract, McKennie is tied to them only until 2026, so the matter is more urgent. The midfielder, who almost left in two consecutive summers, is hopeful of staying put one more time.
He has appeared in 38 matches this campaign, quickly winning over two new managers and adapting to several positions.
While there are some question marks about the fit in a three-man line, especially in tandem with Pierre Kalulu, he’s always serviceable. It’d make little sense to open another hole in an already thin rearguard. The offers would have to be a lot larger to justify it. As for the USMNT staple, his involvement in the betting scandal is the only reservation given his versatility and performances. Having a group of core players has big benefits.
