Manchester City put Juventus to the sword in Thursday’s heavyweight clash at the FIFA Club World Cup. Pep Guardiola’s side demolished their Turin counterparts 5-2 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando to seal a top-place finish in Group G.

Both sides had secured a spot in the knockout stages heading into this clash. However, more than just bragging rights were at stake. After three consecutive wins over Man City, Juventus had hoped to ensure a favorable knockout draw with another victory.

Little did they know the former Premier League champions would wipe the floor with them in Florida. A calamitous night for Juventus started with Jeremy Doku’s strike in the ninth minute. Despite finding a quick equalizer through Teun Koopmeiners, Igor Tudor’s side entered the break on the back foot.

Pierre Kalulu scored a clumsy own goal midway through the first half, restoring Man City’s lead. Things went from bad to worse when Erling Haaland made it 3-2 at the start of the second half. Phil Foden extinguished what’s left of Juventus’ fighting spirit in the 69th minute before Savinho completed City’s quintet.

Dusan Vlahovic found a consolation strike for Juventus late on, but it was barely enough to salvage the Italians’ pride. Without further ado, let’s look at our player ratings.

Michele Di Gregorio – 5/10

Juventus would’ve probably conceded more had it not been for the former Monza goalkeeper. Made several notable saves, but it was insufficient to avoid a catastrophe.

Lloyd Kelly – 5/10

Struggled to assert himself against quicker opposition and looked uncomfortable when dragged out wide.

Nicolo Savona – 6/10

His defensive colleagues often let him down, leaving the youngster exposed far too frequently. Despite the chaos around him, Savona held his ground against Haaland.

Pierre Kalulu – 2/10

You won’t see a funnier own goal at the tournament than this. A complete absence of concentration saw the Frenchman turn home what should’ve been a routine clearance. Failed to recover afterward.

Filip Kostic – 4/10

Handed an unexpected chance to start after a loan spell at Fenerbahce, the Serbian winger failed to make the most of it. His deliveries from the left were largely ineffective, and he often looked a step behind.

Weston McKennie – 3/10

Though it couldn’t have been worse than his disastrous showing against Wydad, the USMNT star barely influenced the play, showing no real spark or authority in midfield.

Manuel Locatelli – 5/10

Seems like a short spell on the sidelines left its mark as the Juventus captain looked rusty and slow at times, especially when called to help out in defense.

Alberto Costa – 3/10

After an underwhelming performance against Wydad, the Portuguese youngster had another forgettable night against Doku. It was a walk in the park for the Belgian forward.

Teun Koopmeiners – 7/10

In the right place at the right time to make a crucial interception before displaying a striker-like composure to draw Juventus level. However, he lost track of Matheus Nunes for Man City’s third.

Nico Gonzalez – 5/10

The Argentine was supposed to be a difference-maker on the wing. Unfortunately, nothing went his way this evening as Rayan Ait-Nouri kept him in his back pocket.

Dusan Vlahovic – 6/10

Converted the only chance his teammates created for him tonight but spent most of the game as a marginal figure.
