Juventus plot to be in contention to sign Ademola Lookman, who’s bound to leave Atalanta in the summer. The skirmish with Gian Piero Gasperini wasn’t necessarily a factor. The choice had already been made last summer, Fabrizio Romano informs (via SOSFanta).

The Nigerian striker was ready to join PSG and asked to be excluded from the squad list for the first couple of matches. However, the brass managed to talk him into staying with the promise of a future departure. They were about to lose Teun Koopmeiners and didn’t want to part ways with another linchpin.

Lookman withdrew his transfer request and is having another spending campaign but hasn’t changed his mind about fleeing Atalanta, and Juventus are having internal discussions about pursuing him already.

Qualifying for the Champions League would be pivotal in that regard. Moreover, what happened with Koopmeiners could have an influence. Even though the Dutchman was hell-bent on going to Turin, the two sides had to negotiate for three months to reach an agreement on his valuation. He really had to force his way out. It probably won’t be the case for the attacker, but he doesn’t have a release clause, so his price tag will have to be haggled. A couple of Premier League powerhouses are keen.

Our Take on Juventus and Lookman

It’d be interesting to see where he’d fit in a more standard scheme. Plus, the Atalanta bump is a real concern after what happened with Koopmeiners, who seemed like a surefire signing. There’s a long way to go since it’s not sure who their coach will be, but they don’t really need a pacey forward unless they sell one.
