La Stampa reports that Juventus defender Daniele Rugani will go on trial in a DUI case in Turin, as the judge refused to let him do community service.

Juventus centre-back Rugani will go on trial in a DUI case after a Turin judge, Roberto Ruscello, rejected on Thursday the request of the lawyers’ defenders to serve his sentence with community service.

According to the report, Rugani was stopped by Police while driving a Maserati on the night of July 21, 2023. When he underwent a breathalyser test, officers found that his results were three times over the legal limit.

The legal limit of alcohol in the blood of drivers in Italy is 0.5 g/l, but Rugani’s first test detected a level of 1.56 g/l, while the second was slightly lower at 1.54 g/l.

La Stampa claims the judge had initially ordered Rugani to pay €5,000, which would have avoided a trial and cleared his criminal record after two years.

The defender and his lawyers requested community service instead, but their demand was rejected, so Rugani will now go on trial, and the first hearing will take place on May 23.
