In a major development, it appears Real Madrid have made a crucial decision in their bid to renew the contract of Vinicius Junior.
It was recently reported that the Brazilian international has a verbal agreement with Real Madrid over a new contract that would have made him the highest-paid player in the team.
However, according to Jorge Picon, Real Madrid have put the Vinicius contract talks on hold, at least for now.
The journalist adds that there will be no more updates on the Vinicius renewal front throughout the summer and everything has been postponed to the 2025/26 season.
This is a major development which may point to several question marks over the Brazilian’s future, especially amid interest from elsewhere.

Needless to say, Saudi Arabia has been quite serious in the past about their intention to sign the Real Madrid winger and were even offering him a bumper deal worth €1 billion over five years.
Even some select European clubs, too, would be interested in signing Vinicius should his contract talks with Real Madrid fall through.
It must be noted that Vinicius didn’t have the best of season in 2024/25, where he was completely overshadowed by Real Madrid’s new signing Kylian Mbappe.
The Brazilian’s lack of consistency continued even in the FIFA Club World Cup, where he was barely differentiable in any game, which in turn, added more fuel to the fire, as far as his future at the Bernabeu is concerned.
That said, the report doesn’t necessarily claim that the renewal talks are over and there is still a possibility that Vinicius may sign a contract renewal somewhere down the campaign.
