Just a year after joining Barcelona, Ilkay Gundogan looks all set to leave the club. The midfielder has reportedly reached an agreement with Barça over his exit.

This came after a meeting between Gundogan and Hansi Flick, where the German was informed he would not be a regular starter in the team, despite Barcelona’s struggles in the midfield unit.

This prompted Gundogan to make a decision to leave Barcelona, while his entourage has started pointing fingers at the club for allegedly forcing the midfielder’s impending exit.

Premier League clubs interested

Nevertheless, the focus will now shift to Gundogan’s future ahead, with the Barcelona star all set to embark on a new adventure elsewhere.

However, as per The Athletic, Gundogan could possibly end up on familiar English shores, as his former employers Manchester City are interested in re-signing him this summer.

The German international has no shortage of suitors, with clubs from Qatar, Turkey and Saudi Arabia ready to snap him up this summer.

But Gundogan, for his part, could fancy a potential return to England. The midfielder played the majority of his career at Manchester City, where he played an instrumental role in helping the Sky Blues impose their dominance in English football.

Gundogan even captained the Man City team in his final season at the club, notably leading them to a treble.

Pep Guardiola was vocal about his disappointment over losing Gundogan last summer. And as such, there is interest in re-signing the 33-year-old from Barcelona.

In fact, Fabrizio Romano reports that the Premier League champions have also contacted Gundogan’s entourage over a possible move back.

Various other clubs from the Premier League are also interested in acquiring the services of the Barça midfielder this summer. So, it will be interesting to see which way things go.
