Ivan Juric insists Roma ‘limited Inter in almost every way’ and has regrets over the decisive goal, but is confident ‘the results will come.’

The Giallorossi are now in crisis after one point from their last three official matches, made even worse by the fact they scored only one goal in that time.

They had their chances at the Stadio Olimpico this evening, forcing saves from Yann Sommer and hitting the woodwork, although Inter could say the same.

The decisive moment was on the hour mark, as Nicola Zalewski stumbled on a Roma corner, then Zeki Celik failed to cut out the Davide Frattesi cross, allowing Lautaro Martinez to score the winner.

Juric defends Roma performance

“I think we started too timid, I didn’t like the first 15 minutes, but after that we did really well until the goal. The goal was just an accident and you pay a heavy price for that at this level,” Juric told DAZN.

“We had a lot of chances, but we also made too many technical errors and that was a gift to Inter. We definitely need to raise the quality level in the final third and that will make us more effective.

“I thought this evening we limited Inter in almost every way and it is a real pity we emerge empty-handed.”

Paulo Dybala sprinted back to help defend for the goal, but was unable to stop the Lautaro Martinez shot even when throwing himself in the way.

“I have a lot of work to do with him, he needs to exchange places with his teammates to take some of the pressure off and limit the number of times he has to track back. With a little more organisation and understanding, we can see the players have to run less to cover those spaces.”

Inter were struggling with injuries already in the build-up to the game, making the trip without Piotr Zielinski and Kristjan Asllani, then lost both Hakan Calhanoglu and Francesco Acerbi to muscular problems in the opening half-hour.

Roma fans had already been protesting the general approach of the club, leaving the Curva Sud empty for the opening 15 minutes except for banners criticising owners the Friedkin family.

“The only way to bring people back together is with results. I think the fans were pleased with many things about the performance tonight, but we need results and the rest is just chatter. I think the way the players sacrifice themselves for the team is fantastic and if they continue like this, we will get results,” insisted Juric.

“I realise this is the situation, the players who are jeered must try to be strong, but it had been a long time since Roma played this well against Inter. If we keep that up, the results will come.”
