Ivan Juric acknowledges his change of tactics revitalised Roma for their comeback victory over Venezia and says Niccolò Pisilli is one of the young talents with ‘the right stuff.’

The Giallorossi remain unbeaten since the coach took over from Daniele De Rossi, even though the fans also continue their protests, again staying silent during the opening 15 minutes and jeering the team off the pitch at half-time today.

They were 1-0 down to relegation strugglers Venezia at the time, but turned it around late on with a deflected Bryan Cristante long-range strike and Pisilli header on a corner kick.

“We allowed too many counter-attacks in the first half, whereas we raised the tempo after the break and were oddly fresher,” Juric told DAZN.

“On Thursday it was an extraordinarily intense match, so it can happen that a few players were below par after that.”

The tension had been growing in the Roma camp after a midweek Europa League 1-1 draw with Athletic Club, during which Paulo Dybala picked up a muscular injury, ruling him out of today’s game.

Roma still finding identity under Juric

Just shy of the hour mark, Juric introduced Pisilli and Tommaso Baldanzi for Gianluca Mancini and Manu Koné.

“We moved to four at the back and worked very well. We opened up with three to create overloads and interpreted that system very well. Leandro Paredes also gave a big hand.”

Pisilli is a product of the Roma youth academy and just the latest homegrown player to score his first Serie A goal for the club.

“We have four or five young players to work with, they have strength, talent and are eager to learn. Their energy is remarkable, they are also good guys: Soulé, Koné, Baldanzi and Pisilli, they’ve got the right stuff.”

There is a recurring theme for Roma this season, as they repeatedly concede goals from set play situations.

“The lads are always hungry to win and proved that today in difficult situations, they were fantastic in that fightback during the second half. I have great faith in the future,” added Juric.

“There is a lot to improve in preventative marking, reading the passes, controlling the game, which we did better against Bilbao and Udinese than today.”
