Liverpool maintained their perfect record in the Champions League on Wednesday night, as they overcame Real Madrid 2-0 at Anfield.
The Reds dominated the first-half, but it wasn’t until the 52nd minute they managed to breach Madrid’s defences.
Alexis Mac Allister broke the deadlock for Liverpool with a low shot across Thibaut Courtois after playing a one-two with Conor Bradley.
Kylian Mbappe missed a penalty before Mohamed Salah also squandered his chance from the spot.
However, substitute Cody Gakpo powered home a brilliant header from Robertson’s cross to wrap up a comfortable win.
The Champions League triumph came at a cost for the Merseyside giants though, as Ibrahima Konate limped off after the final whistle.
Journalist David Lynch shared footage that showed him to be in some pain as he left the field.
The 25-year-old appeared to have sustained an ankle injury, which is a big concern ahead of the Premier League showdown with Manchester City at the weekend.
Slot admitted in his press conference that the severity of the injury is difficult to judge so soon after the match.
The Dutch boss said (per the Daily Mail): ‘No. Not yet. We know now where they (Konate and Bradley) have pain but it’s difficult to judge so close after the game.
Konate’s injury is a big blow for the Reds as he has been a key member of Slot’s first-team this season.
Partnering Virgil van Dijk in defence, he has made 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals.
Konate was also excellent on Wednesday against Madrid, winning 100% of duels as well as 100% of his long balls.
Liverpool fans will hope his injury isn’t severe and he recovers in time for the weekend’s home clash.
