After Thursday’s comeback for the ages against Lyon, there is additional good news in store for Manchester United supporters, as the club is reportedly closing in on an agreement with Kobbie Mainoo.
The 19-year-old was the biggest breakout star from last season. He became a protagonist in Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup, and went on to score in the FA Cup final victory over Man City.
This season, the midfielder has been enduring a rough campaign, struggling to find himself in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, while injuries have derailed his momentum.
Nevertheless, the ‘exceptional’ England international is fit again, and on Thursday, he came off the bench to score the 119th-minute equaliser against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals, paving the way for Harry Maguire’s winner two minutes later.
In addition to his European heroics, Mainoo has reportedly held an important meeting with the club’s top officials, and the two parties are reportedly beginning to find some common ground.
“To add the cherry on top, hearing Kobbie has had positive talks regarding his contract in recent weeks,” revealed Man Utd insider Sully on his X account.

This is certainly a delightful piece of news for the fanbase, especially due to Mainoo’s status at Man United. The youngster is an academy product of the club, and a crowd favourite at Old Trafford.
It also comes after months of speculation regarding his future. It has been reported that the management is struggling to find a breakthrough in their talks with the player’s entourage.
Nevertheless, the club’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, had promised to keep both Mainoo and fellow Man Utd youngster Alejandro Garnacho at the club.
