Bayer Leverkusen are “unaware” of any deal being close for Jeremie Frimpong to join Liverpool.
Speculation has been rife this week with regards to the right-back who is seen as a perfect replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold after it was announced he will be leaving the Premier League champions as a free agent.
A cryptic Instagram post from the defender’s agent, Jeffrey Lemmert, on Monday evening sent some excited Liverpool supporters into meltdown, whilst German outlet Kicker claimed on Tuesday that Frimpong is expected to sign for the club this summer.
Those rumours appear to be wide of the mark, however, as Leverkusen chief, Fernando Carro, insists no deal is in place.
Speaking to sport.de, Carro said: "Jeremie Frimpong has a long contract with us, which also has an exit clause, but we are currently unaware of any transfer.
“The rumors surprised me a bit when I started in the football business seven years ago.
"As I've gradually become more involved, there are always different interested parties, there are different parties, there are different relationships.
“It's actually quite difficult to figure out where the rumors come from, but I have to say, there are many that really surprise me.”
Interestingly, Carro has confirmed Frimpong does have a release clause in his contract which is believed to be £29.5million.
