Jason Cundy was not happy with the performance of Axel Disasi against Ipswich and tore into the Frenchman on Monday night.

The Blues put in a poor performance to round out the year as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat and their fourth of the campaign.

It’s now back to back defeats in the league for Chelsea after losing to Fulham on Boxing Day, and they are now fourth in the table, three points ahead of Newcastle in fifth.

Cundy not impressed by Disasi

Enzo Maresca made five changes from the defeat to Fulham with Axel Disasi, Noni Madueke, Filip Jorgensen, Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku all coming into the team.

None of the changes had the impact Maresca would have desired, but it was a particularly difficult evening for Disasi who really struggled.

Disasi had a night to forget at Portman Road.

Maresca made the strange decision to name three right backs on the bench and play Disasi out of position, where he’s struggled on numerous occasions already this season.

The 26-year-old played a role in both goals Chelsea conceded and was the source of frustration for a lot of supporters, before he was eventually replaced by Malo Gusto with a little over ten minutes remaining.

Former Blue Cundy wasn’t impressed with Disasi’s defending and made that clear in his criticism of the ex-Monaco man’s performance.

“It’s a gift from Disasi, Disasi, can he do better as well closing down Omari Hutchinson?,” he said via Chelsea’s official app.

“Make sure he doesn’t get his shot away. Too passive. It’s a lovely finish. Talk about trying to hand them a leg up. Disasi is culpable. It’s a sloppy ball giving it away.”

Maresca admitted after the game the Blues weren’t good enough defensively and hopefully it will be the last time Disasi is seen at right back given Josh Acheampong has signed a new contract.

Disasi is likely to leave Stamford Bridge next summer, although he is attracting interest ahead of the January window, but it remains to be see what offers, if any the Blues will receive next month.
