Former Manchester United coach Kieran McKenna is a man in demand after leading Ipswich Town to the Premier League. In recent weeks, the Northern Irish coach has attracted interest from Brighton and Hove Albion as well as Chelsea.

However, McKenna, who worked at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their assistant, is reportedly reluctant to consider any offer swiftly, as he sees United as his ideal destination.

Interestingly, McKenna is not the only former United man willing to return to Manchester to be part of INEOS’ project, with Jaap Stam also expressing his desire to return to the Theatre of Dreams.

The treble-winning United legend has found his name in the spotlight in recent days.

A report from TuttoMercatoWeb claimed United contacted the former Dutch defender to explore the possibility of him taking up a role at Old Trafford that would see him bridge the gap between the club and its technical staff.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, the 51-year-old quashed the rumour, stating: “We’re not in talks… I haven’t heard anything about it.”

He added, “Because I’m over here [in the United States]… so I haven’t had any contact with people or whatever.”

Having said that, Stam expressed he is open to helping United if they need his services. “If they want me to help them in any way as well, then I’m always ready to do so,” he said.

The potential of McKenna returning to United after his impressive stint at Ipswich as well as the availability of Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel has naturally excited many Red Devils fans.

However, Stam has voiced his support for the current gaffer, insisting Ten Hag deserves more time at United.

INEOS are yet to make their decision on the former Ajax boss’ long-term future at United. For the moment, all the focus is on the side’s FA Cup final clash with Manchester City at Wembley this Saturday.

How he counters Pep Guardiola’s men and how the players react in their biggest test of the season might play a crucial role in the club’s ultimate decision.
