Ivan Provedel Belittles Italy Omission, Reveals Why He Shouted at Lazio Teammate

Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel insists he isn’t thinking about his omission from the Italian national team, as he’s happy to focus on the Biancocelesti.

Provedel Focused on Lazio

The 30-year-old used to receive regular call-ups in the past couple of seasons, and was selected as part of Luciano Spalletti’s squad for the Euro 2024. But despite being left out again, Provedel remains upbeat as he explained in his post-match press conference (via La Lazio Siamo Noi) after helping his club secure a precious 1-0 win in Monza.

I’m not thinking about the national team, if it happens, I’ll be happy, if not, then I’ll have more time to train at Lazio.

No Excuses

The custodian admitted the Biancocelesti weren’t in their best physical condition at the U-Power Stadium due to their heavy schedule, but exhaustion cannot be an excuse if they want to challenge for the biggest honors.

Perhaps this time we were less fresh than usual, but I think it’s part of the game. If you play at a high level, being tired cannot be used as an excuse. We just want to focus on doing well, if the victory doesn’t come like in Turin [against Juventus], it will serve as a learning experience.

Yelling at Isaksen

Provedel also explained that he was seen shouting at his teammate Gustav Isaksen because he felt the team was losing concentration during the second half.

I felt that our intensity dropped in the second half, perhaps we were a little tired. We dropped too deep. Gustav and I have a great relationship, I love him so much. In my opinion, Isaksen is very strong and I want the best for him. It could have been anyone, it wasn’t against him personally.
