“It’s true Chelsea wanted me” – Transfer target who watched Arsenal match speaks about failed move

A little less than a year ago, we wrote a piece which noted that a Chelsea transfer target had been at the Blues game against Arsenal. The Blues were battered 5-0 in that game, a low point in the season which was then followed by us reeling off 5 wins and a draw to close out the campaign in style.

We’re not sure what Feyenoord star Quilindschy Hartman thought at the time – perhaps he was relieved that a knee injury prevented him making the move.

He’s just been speaking in the Dutch press about how that transfer fell through, in typically brusque and straightforward Dutch fashion:

“It’s true that Chelsea wanted me, but of course that didn’t happen because of my knee,” the wing back saidin quotes picked up by Voetbalprimeur.

“Too bad, emotionally it would have been a big club for me, but it’s not like I’m still losing sleep over it. Things go as they go and playing for Feyenoord is never a punishment.”

Chelsea still in need at left back despite steady turnover

As we noted a year ago, our turnover at left back over the years has been constant – Marcos Alonso was a great option as a wing back, but post Antonio Conte the injuries to Ben Chilwell have meant a lot of change there. Lewis Hall and Ian Maatsen were discarded, Marc Cucurella was out in the cold then first choice and a key player, Levi Colwill played there under Mauricio Pochettino and then moved centrally this year, Renato Veiga was signed and then loaned 6 months later.

While it may not be Harman, we will certainly see a new left back signed this summer. There are still doubts about Cucurella’s ceiling despite a good year, and at the very least competition and backup is needed.
