Luciano Spalletti believes that Inter Milan are “not at the top level yet” but that they can reach that level this season.
Speaking to the press, via FCInterNews, the former Nerazzurri, Napoli, and Roma coach also gave his thoughts on next weekend’s top-of-the-table Serie A clash.
Inter Milan are currently top of the Serie A table. They overtook Napoli this past weekend, capitalizing on a surprise loss by the latter away to Como to give themselves a one-point advantage.
Meanwhile, Inter are in the Champions League round of sixteen. They booked their place directly by finishing in the top eight of the “league phase.”
And tomorrow, Inter take on Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarterfinals.
Still, there is a sense that this is not all that the Nerazzurri are capable of.
After three straight Supercoppa Italiana victories, Inter relinquished their crown. They squandered a 2-0 advantage over AC Milan to lose 3-2 in the final.
Meanwhile, Inter have not been altogether convincing in the big matches so far this season. They’ve taken just two points from four matches against AC Milan and Juventus.
Meanwhile, Inter drew their first match of the campaign against Napoli.
They’ll have an opportunity to rectify that next Saturday, however. And it could hardly come at a better time.
Italy coach Luciano Spalletti has had stints in charge of both Inter and Napoli.
The veteran coach anticipated that next Saturday’s match between two of his former teams “will be a great duel.”

“It will tell us a lot about the way that the table will shape up over the rest of the season,” he continued.
“I still don’t see Inter at top level as far as what they’re capable of,” Spalletti then argued.
“And since they have that much potential, I think they can express it at any moment.”
Spalletti continued that “Napoli have played some extraordinary matches.”
“Apart from a few moments that stopped them from getting the results.”
Spalletti argued that “Conte has given them exceptional strength,”
“You can see the work on the pitch,” he added. “When they lose the ball everyone drops back, it’s man against man marking as soon as they lose the ball.”
Spalletti argued that “Inter have history that gives them an advantage in these matches.”
