Listen, no club ourselves included wants to sell their best players, but the brutal truth is that if they want to leave for a new challenge and the money on offer for the club is right, the player in question will be off as quick as you can say bye-bye.
That seems to be the case for Nicolas Kuhn with Celtic supporters already starting to resign themselves to the thought of losing the winger after concrete interest from RB Leipzig, Newcastle United and now Italian side Como.

You don’t need to be a body language expert to know that the German was deeply affected by the January transfer speculation surrounding himself, and his form dwindled in the second half of the season, going from a £35 million rated talent to the £15 million which is reportedly on the table for his signature in the space of a few months such was his drastic drop in his form.
Leipzig’s £15 million valuation is still a pretty decent sum for a player we signed for just £3 million 18 months ago, and now it seems cash rich EPL big hitters Newcastle United who were previously linked with Nicolas are firmly back on his trail. And with the Italians joining in the price will start to push upwards again for a player with four years remaining on his contract.

That can only be a good thing for us in terms of the fee we can fetch for a player we are resigned to losing. Hopefully this two to three way battle adds a few more million onto the price tag as the news this afternoon is that Italian side Como, who have already signed former Celtic loanee Alex Valle from Barcelona, are now a declared runner in the race to sign Celtic’s German winger.

So that’s three of the top five leagues in European football represented, all we need now is a French and a Spanish bit to give us a full house.
Nicolas Kuhn is a wanted man with strong interest from RB Leipzig and Newcastle, and today it’s been reported that ambitious newly promoted Serie A side Como are interested in acquiring the Germans signature.

The usually reliable Antony Joseph of Sky Sports recently broke the news so there will indeed be some substance to the Italian club’s interest.
As mentioned above the race for Kuhn’s signature, no doubt fuelled by his outstanding form in last season’s UEFA Champions League, is turning into something of a bidding frenzy, with Como the latest club to show some interest, things are starting to look well in our favour.

One things for sure is that the German is not short of offers from clubs who can more than double his salary, so in my view it’s just a matter of when and not if he leaves.
From Celtic’s point of view we want the best offer we can for Nicolas, and it’s just a matter of who offers the most. Celtic will have a valuation in mind and Nicolas Kuhn’s agent will be well aware of that price and will be channeling down the line to all interested parties. We watched this play out last summer with Matt O’Riley where Celtic held their nerve with Atalanta – and previously with Atletico Madrid, and eventually got their valuation met by Brighton.

So with Nicolas Kuhn’s declared admirers coming from the EPL, the Bundesliga and Serie A we can expect Celtic’s valuation to be met and another bumper transfer fee paid when the player does end his 18 month stay in Glasgow.
He’ll leave with two Scottish Premiership medals, a Scottish Cup medal and a League Cup medal, not bad for a season and a half starring in the Hoops.
