Tottenham Hotspur head coach Robert Vilahamn says that he is pleased with the team’s progress in his first year in North London.

Vilahamn joined Spurs last summer and he has quickly got to work building an attracting style of football which fits with the club’s philosophy. The Lilywhites thrilled with their attacking play in the first half of the season before also improving their defensive qualities after Christmas.

When reflecting on Spurs’ season in a club press conference, Vilahamn admitted that he is pleased with the first year of his long-term project.

“We have nailed a style of play and all of the players have adapted well to that,” Vilahamn said. “It’s connected to the men’s team as well, so we have the Tottenham style. The fans see that and that’s been the main thing this year, that we now have a certain style.

“Results-wise, we will finish in the top six, final in the FA Cup, quarter-final in the Conti Cup, that’s a decent result.

“It has been a good year, we have gained a lot of experience. For me, the staff and the club, I think we will go into next year with good foundations to build on compared to this year where we started from zero basically. Overall, a good year.”

Spurs end the campaign with a fixture against local rivals West Ham United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this afternoon. Vilahamn is expecting a competitive game, although he feels that it is one that Spurs are more than capable of winning.

He said “West Ham have struggled a bit this year but they have some really good players in that squad, so if they have a good day like they did against Arsenal and Manchester United, you know that they can give you a tough game. We also know that we love playing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and love to try and play better, so hopefully, we can dictate the game.

“It’s going to be a tough game because they are always competitive but I feel hopeful that we can end it in a good way.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United kicks-off at 3pm. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
