It has been reported that Ipswich Town and Leicester City are both interested in signing Manchester City defender Issa Kabore.
With just a few days of the summer transfer window to go, things are heating up and the mad scramble is beginning, and reports now suggest that both Ipswich Town and Leicester City are interested in signing Manchester City full-back Issa Kabore.
Both Ipswich and Leicester were relegated from the Premier League last season and both still have strong squads and will be expected to challenge for an immediate return to the top-flight, but they have both endured a stuttering start to the season.
Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich have collected two points from three matches with back-to-back 1-1 draws against Birmingham City and Southampton being followed by a 1-0 loss at Deepdale against Preston North End.
Leicester also suffered a defeat at Deepdale, but the Foxes have managed to sandwich that between two unconvincing victories; coming from behind to defeat Sheffield Wednesday by two goals to one and then edging past Charlton Athletic by a goal to nil.
The two teams also suffered defeats in the first round of the EFL Cup, against Bromley and Huddersfield Town respectively, and it has been clear that the squads have needed work and reshaping, both in terms of depth and quality, and now they are rivalling each other for Kabore.
According to talkSPORT, Manchester City right-back Issa Kabore is reportedly wanted by four clubs with City’s preference being to sell the defender, albeit they would open to allowing him to leave on loan once again.
It has been reported that both Leicester and Ipswich have shown an interest, alongside newly-promoted teams from the continent, with Bundesliga new boys Hamburg and Paris FC, who have just gone up to Ligue 1, also interested in his services.
The 24-year-old, who has 49 caps for Burkina Faso, joined Manchester City from Mechelen in the summer of 2020, but he has yet to make a single first-team appearance for the Cityzens in the last five years.
He has instead spent time back out on loan at Mechelen, as well as in Ligue 1 with Troyes and Olympique de Marseille, before making 24 Premier League appearances on loan at Luton Town.
Last season, he spent the first-half of the campaign in Portugal with Benfica, before then moving to Werder Bremen on a temporary basis after an underwhelming stint at Estadio da Luz.
Both Ipswich and Leicester have been busy this summer, although the vast majority of the latter’s business has revolved around outgoing transfers.
One of those outgoings actually saw Ireland international Kasey McAteer move to Portman Road for a fee in the region of £12 million last week.
As well as the departure of McAteer, the Foxes have also sold Conor Coady and Wilfred Ndidi to Wrexham and Besiktas respectively, whilst Mads Hermansen has joined West Ham United and James Justin has moved to Leeds United.
In terms of incomings, they have only been able to bring in goalkeeper Asmir Begovic on a free transfer, whilst Ipswich, in contrast, have made seven new additions.
David Button and Ashley Young have arrived on free transfers, with Cedric Kipre, Jens Cajuste and Chuba Akpom signed on loan. In terms of purchases, aside from McAteer, they have also brought in Azor Matusiwa from Stade Rennais.
It is expected to be a busy few days to finish off the window for both the Foxes and the Tractor Boys, and they are rivalling each other for the signing of Kabore, too.
