Marcus Thuram has revisited old comments stating that he was an AC Milan fan growing up by claiming he would never support them now.
Milan were really close to signing Thuram from Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer during the 2023 summer transfer window. They made an offer to the striker that he looked ready to accept, before Inter swooped late and offered more to obtain his signature.
Thuram hit the ground running with the Nerazzurri and scored in both derbies last season, including the one that allowed the Nerazzurri to secure their 20th league title and get a second start before the Rossoneri.
The Frenchman has given an interview to GQ Italia in which he spoke about a number of topics, with an interesting segment emerging.
“Favourite goal? The one I scored against Milan in the first derby. The hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life was scoring a goal against Maignan. The one thing I would never do? Obviously support Milan!” he said (via Football Italia).
Well, Marcus, we would like to revisit some comments made while with the Bundesliga team. Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he admitted to being a Milan fan growing up.
“I don’t know why, but when dad was playing for Juve, I cheered for Milan, when he moved to Barcelona I was cheering for Real Madrid,” he said.
“I loved Sheva and Crespo, but now I’m only a fan of my Borussia. This is why it will not be a derby for me. It would have been if I had played against Inter at the time, who were playing against Milan that I was a fan of. It would have been a derby if I had played against Adriano, Vieri and Martins. I just want to score for Borussia.”
