Inter Milan have reportedly launched an unofficial offer for Lazio midfielder Nicolo Rovella, but it proved insufficient.
The Nerazzurri might need a new deep-lying playmaker, as Hakan Calhanoglu is being heavily linked with a move to Galatasaray, while Kristjan Asllani hasn’t always been up to the task. Therefore, Inter president Beppe Marotta and the club’s sporting director Piero Ausilio have been keeping a close eye on Rovella.
According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Inter have yet to submit a concrete offer for the 23-year-old, but they have informed Lazio, through Rovella’s representative Beppe Riso, of their willingness to pay a transfer fee worth €40 million. The agent has reportedly been urging the player to seek an exit from Formello.

Nevertheless, Lazio’s response was swift and clear, reiterating their desire to keep the former Genoa and Juventus midfielder. Therefore, Inter would have to trigger the player’s release clause by splashing €50 million to push the deal through. But even then, Rovella may block the transfer in favor of staying with the Aquile, especially after declaring his love for the club.
The newspaper also confirms Lazio’s stance by quoting club president Claudio Lotito.
They’re offering €40 million? If they want him, there’s a €50 million release clause, otherwise I’ve already said I won’t sell my best players.
