Inter Milan will offer club captain Lautaro Martinez a contract extension with wages in double figures, but only with the inclusion of add-ons.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipates a new round of contract talks this week.

Inter and Martinez have yet to reach an agreement on a new contract.

The Argentine’s contract with the Nerazzurri currently runs until the end of June of next year. But there is no doubt that the club will want him to sign a new deal well before then.

There have been negotiations for months now between Inter and Martinez regarding an extension.

However, as of yet, Martinez has not put pen to paper.

The reason is no big secret. Inter have yet to put forward an offer that is high enough for their captain.

Given Martinez’s importance to Inter, the 26-year-old wants to make the most of his next big contract.

Martinez is the top scorer in Serie A for the season just concluded. And the fact that he wears the captain’s armband for the Nerazzurri and is a key player in both phases of play is another factor.

Inter Milan To Offer Lautaro Martinez Wages In Double Figures – But Only With Add-Ons

Martinez’s expectation looks to be that he will receive a wage increase taking him to double figures if he is to sign a new contract with Inter.

There would be a certain symbolic significance to this. Inter’s captain wants to be one of Serie A’s top earners.

Martinez’s initial demands were reportedly for €12 million net per season.

Inter will not be going that high. However, the Nerazzurri’s offer will reach €10 million net per season.

That is, however, only with the inclusion of add-ons.

Inter will not offer a deal worth €10 million net per season as a base amount, before add-ons.

Therefore, it could come down to whether or not Martinez accepts an offer of this nature.

The Corriere report that there will be a new meeting to discuss Martinez’s prospective new deal this week.
