Chelsea are going through a summer with too many open files and several names in the air. The London club need to clean up their squad and move on players who do not feel part of the project. One of those cases is Christopher Nkunku. The Frenchman arrived with a bright future from Leipzig, but injuries and a lack of confidence pushed him into the background. In the meantime, other European giants are rejoicing. Inter Milan are already making moves to strengthen their attack, and Sky Sports reports that the 27-year-old striker fits perfectly into their plan.

Nkunku’s situation is becoming increasingly uncomfortable. Sky Sports reports that Inter want to add a striker with a different profile and that the departure of Mehdi Taremi would be key to a move for the Frenchman. Nkunku made 47 appearances in the 2024/25 season, adding 20 G/A, but never felt undisputed. Stamford Bridge has gone cold on him. The player needs minutes and a coach who trusts in his quality. In addition, the Chelsea board are looking favourably on a sale that would bring in fresh money to rebuild a team that has yet to find stability.
But what should Chelsea ask for a player who cost a fortune a year ago? Nkunku still has a market and quality up his sleeve, although his physical problems and inconsistency detract from his value. The Londoners cannot give him away, but neither can they squeeze a buyer to absurd limits. A reasonable price could be around €40 million, subject to variables.
Inter must assess whether it is worth betting on a striker who needs confidence and continuity to perform. For his part, Nkunku has to decide if he wants to restart his career in a tactical league like Serie A, where he could fit in well if Cristian Chivu gives him freedom near the box. Chelsea, meanwhile, must stop accumulating players who don’t quite fit. Selling early and well would be a relief for a dressing room loaded with names and high salaries. In our opinion, if Inter put a clear project on the table, Nkunku should say yes. Chelsea should not block his exit.
