Inter Milan should have returned from Germany last night after suffering a heartbreaking UEFA Champions League loss at Bayer Leverkusen.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri landed in Italy only this morning due to technical problems at the airport.
Nordi Mukiele denied Inter a piece of European history by netting a 90th-minute winner for Xabi Alonso’s side.
Indeed, he became the first player to beat Yann Sommer in the Champions League this season.
More importantly, his strike marked the end of the Italian’s unbeaten run in continental action.
As if the loss wasn’t disappointing enough, Inter found themselves stuck at the airport after the match.
Inter had to delay their return home after the match by a few hours.
Hoping to leave on short notice, the Nerazzurri players remained inside the plane until 4 am.
After being informed that it would take additional time to solve the issue, the squad had to urgently secure a hotel at the last moment.
Indeed, technical problems on the flight forced Simone Inzaghi’s team to spend the night in Germany.
They finally touched down in Milan this morning to resume preparations for the upcoming Serie A clash against Lazio.
