Inter Milan are still searching for a “turning point” between Simone Inzaghi and Cristian Chivu after their Club World Cup opener against Monterrey.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

The Cristian Chivu era is now officially underway at Inter Milan. The Romanian was on the bench for his first Nerazzurri match, in the form of their Club World Cup group stage opener against Monterrey.

There were mixed signs from that match, it would be fair to say.

In terms of the formation, Inter started out with a the 3-5-2 shape that had been customary under Inzaghi. However, they also switched to a 3-4-1-2 and 3-4-2-1 in the second half.

And then, as far as new signings go, there were two debuts. Luis Henrique looked bright coming on as a substitute in the second. Less so the shaky Petar Sucic entering in midfield.

Then there is the matter of set piece defending.

Inter Milan had always gone with pretty much a purely man-marking set pieces defending set pieces under Simone Inzaghi.

On the other hand, there are already clear signals that Cristian Chivu is ready to change that. Inter defended much more zonally against Monterrey.

In the view of Tuttosport, it is doubtful whether this is the right plan. After all, Inter conceded just twice from corners last season.

However, Chivu will deserve some time to see whether his ideas can really work in guiding Inter successfully out of Inzaghi’s reign.

Right now, the team are still looking for that decisive turning point, though.
