Inter Milan are reportedly on the cusp of finalizing the contract extension of their Dutch wingback Denzel Dumfries.

The 28-year-old has been plying his trade at San Siro since 2021. He arrived as a direct replacement for Achraf Hakimi who joined Paris Saint-Germain that summer.

Although the Netherlands international had his highs and lows, he has now established himself as a staple at the club.

Therefore, his expiring contract has been a cause of a headache for the club’s director for almost a year.

The two parties had been struggling to make significant progress in their contract talks. The player’s agents have been gunning for a salary worth €5 million per year. On the other hand, the club is only offering €4 million.

Hence, many were expecting Dumfries to leave this summer, especially amidst reported interest from Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Denzel Dumfries All Set To Sign New Inter Milan Contract

Nevertheless, the two sides managed to find a breakthrough earlier in the summer, thus repelling all exit talks.

And yet, the delay in the procedure sparked some concerns amongst the club’s supporters.

Some are fearing a repeat of Milan Skriniar’s transfer saga. The Slovakian was tipped to pen a deal with the Nerazzurri but eventually ended up signing for PSG on a free transfer last summer.

Nevertheless, La Gazzetta dello Sport (via FcInterNews) reassures this won’t be the case with Dumfries.

The pink newspaper insists the two parties have agreed to sign a new contract that would see the wingback earn 4 million euros per season in addition to bonuses.

The source believes the signature could come following the next international break in September.

Therefore, the former PSV Eindhoven could finally tie the knot with the Italian champions next month and put a definitive end to all speculations.
