Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi feels there was “no contest” in the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal against Atalanta.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, after the end of the 2-0 semifinal victory. He also said he’s unsure whether Marcus Thuram will be fit for the final.

Inter got past Atalanta to reach the final of the Supercoppa Italiana.

It was not an easy victory by any means. Matches against Atalanta rarely are.

However, it was a fairly convincing win by the Nerazzurri in the end. They could have scored at least once or twice in the first half but for a string of excellent saves by Marco Carnesecchi.

In the second half, it was wingback Denzel Dumfries who enjoyed a star turn for Inter. The Dumfries scored a match-winning brace.

And at the other end, Inter held out for a clean sheet.

Inter Coach Inzaghi: “No Contest” Vs Atalanta In Supercoppa Semifinal

After the match, Inter coach Inzaghi said that “The guys did very well.”

“There was no contest,” he insisted. “Against a team who are at the highest level, but were up against a great Inter who started both halves very well.”

“We wanted to reach the final,” Inzaghi said. “And we got it.”

“We took the first step, and now it’s all up to us to play for it.”

Inzaghi continued that “I congratulated the guys for playing a very focused, technical game.”

“Because we’ve never created so many opportunities against Atalanta, who are a great opponent.”

Of the numerous saves by La Dea keeper Carnesecchi in the first half, Inzaghi said that “I managed to watch the one on Lautaro back.”

“He was right to celebrate that,” the Inter coach said of the spectacular save.

“But then I’d also think about the ones on Mkhitaryan and DImarco.”

“We needed to make it 3-0 to kill it off, and maybe if you don’t then there’s a chance for the match to get back open. Like on the chance for 2-1.”

“But there’s little for me to criticize the guys for,” the Inter coach said.

Inzaghi Unsure Of Marcus Thuram Fitness For Supercoppa Final

Meanwhile, the Inter coach was asked about the condition of striker Marcus Thuram, who came off at halftime.

“I can’t say yet,” Inzaghi said. “He had a minor problem, he felt some stiffness in his adductor.”

“So I told him to come out a bit early at halftime, to see how he was doing.”

“He wasn’t feeling up to it, and so we made the change right away,” the Inter coach said.

“We’ll play again in four days,” Inzaghi noted. “And over the next few days my staff and I will see whether he’s available for the final.”

And the Inter coach said that his captain Lautaro Martinez “absolutely” had a good match despite not scoring.

“Then, on a few occasions he faced extraordinary saves by Carnesecchi,” he noted.

“But we depend a lot on our strikers. Not just Lautaro, but also Arnautovic, Taremi, and Correa.”

‘They do a great job, and they’re important for us for a lot more than just goals.”

Inzaghi said that “I’m fortunate to have players who know the importance of scoring goals, but even more than that, of winning.”
