Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is very pleased with the performances of Mehdi Taremi and Marko Arnautovic against Lecce.

The Nerazzurri coach spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, after the match, praising the two strikers and reacting to the match.

Inter were without their captain and last season’s top scorer Lautaro Martinez against Lecce this evening.

But that was no problem for the Nerazzurri.

Marcus Thuram and Mehdi Taremi led the line for Inter, the latter making his first Serie A start.

Then in the second half, former West Ham United and Bologna veteran Arnautovic came on for Thuram.

There were no goals from any of Inter’s three strikers on the evening.

But it did not matter too much. The Nerazzurri were able to win the match 2-0 to get off and running on their Serie A title defense.

And the solid performances from the strikers certainly had a massive part to play in Inter’s overall display.

Inzaghi: “Great Performance Taremi, Brilliant Spirit Arnautovic” Vs Lecce

After the match, Inzaghi commented that “We have to learn not to be so tied to the form of Lautaro, Barella, or Calhanoglu.”

“Last season we won the title because the entire squad gave us answers,” the coach continued.

“As far as Taremi, he’s fit in very well. This evening he had a match where he didn’t grab the highlights, but it was a top, top performance for us.”

Inzaghi said that Taremi “Ran for 95 minutes.”

“He fought and always put himself at the service of the team,” he said of the Iranian international.

“I opted to take off Thuram, who was also having a great match,” Inzaghi said. “Arnautovic came on with brilliant spirit, and those the signs that a coach wants to see.”

Meanwhile, Inzaghi also explained the absence of Inter captain Martinez. “On Friday he woke up feeling some pain,” the coach said.

“On Thursday he’d gone hard in training, but after he felt that discomfort we decided not to risk him.”

“He’s a very generous player,” Inzaghi said of Martinez. “So he wanted to be there.”

“But we’re at the start of the season. There are a lot of matches and I’m fortunate to have plenty of players at my disposal.”

As far as whether Martinez can return for Inter’s next match against Atalanta, Inzaghi said “For Friday we’ll see one day at a time.”

“In Genoa we played a good match,” argued Inzaghi, of Inter’s first match which was a 2-2 draw.

“We conceded two very avoidable goals. But the signs looked positive to me.”

“This week, we didn’t feel happy about it at all,” the coach said of the reaction to the draw. “Because we’re Inter, and we always want to win.”

“But the signs looked good to me.”

“Genoa played a good match,” Inzaghi added. “But we weren’t happy.”
