Simone Inzaghi has made fixing up careless defensive errors for Inter Milan a priority after a shoddy defensive start to the season.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They suggest the coach wants the team to play like they did against Manchester City in every match.

Inter’s start to the season has been far from ideal defensively.

The Nerazzurri have conceded goals in four out of the six matches they’ve played in Serie A.

However, the problem has not necessarily been that the Nerazzurri have been conceding too many chances.

In the derby against AC Milan, the Rossoneri were certainly good value for their 2-1 win.

In that match, Inter looked far too open on the counterattack. They had to rely on keeper Yann Sommer kept the scoreline looking more respectable for the Nerazzurri.

But the real problem for Inter is illustrated in their match against Udinese over the weekend.

Simone Inzaghi To Focus On Eliminating On Careless Inter Milan Errors

Inter did win away to Udinese on Saturday. But it was not an entirely comfortable victory.

The Nerazzurri conceded twice against the Friulani.

The first goal in particular was totally unnecessary for Inter to concede.

It was Yann Bisseck who failed to prevent Udinese defender Christian Kabasele from winning the header and scoring.

And this was reminiscent of Davide Frattesi losing the run of Matteo Gabbia in the derby.

Or Benjamin Pavard failing to track Dany Mota against Monza.

These kinds of defensive errors stem from a simple lack of attention.

So did Yann Sommer’s blunder against Genoa on opening day, and then Yann Bisseck’s concession of a needless penalty in stoppage time.

Overall, apart from the derby, Inzaghi feels that his team have been functioning well defensively.

And Inter showed that for ninety minutes against Manchester City in the Champions League.

However, the Nerazzurri must cut out the basic errors if that’s to count for anything.
