Inter Milan wingback Carlos Augusto calls for his teammates to replicate their display against Manchester City in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina.
The Nerazzurri returned home with a precious point from their Champions League opener against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Simone Inzaghi’s men could have snatched the win had they been more prolific up front. Nevertheless, they still earned the plaudits for a gritty display against a supreme opponent away from home.
For his part, Carlos Augusto earned a starting spot due to Federico Dimarco’s injury.
The Brazilian rues his team’s missed goal-scoring opportunities but notes the result is encouraging.
“It was a great team performance. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy to get points at the Etihad. But we earned a good draw,” said the 25-year-old in his post-match interview with FcInterNews.
“We could have won, but now we continue our journey. We knew it was difficult to play against them as they always maintain possession.
“However, we had our opportunities to win the match but the draw is fine.
“We were prepared for the opportunities that they could have created. It’s a shame because we could have won, but the result is okay.”
“It’s a good point, and we still have seven games in the Champions League and we have to give it our all.”
Augusto urged the team to shift their focus to the Derby against AC Milan. The two crosstown rivals will clash heads on Sunday.
“Now we have the Derby, another very difficult match.
“We must enter the pitch with the same spirit as always, as we want to face it in the right way because we know how beautiful it is to win this fixture.
“it’s the most important match of the campaign.”
