Cristian Chivu has been named as Inter Milan’s new manager, taking over from Simone Inzaghi ahead of the upcoming Club World Cup.
The former Romania and Inter defender has signed a deal that keeps him at the helm until 30 June 2027.
This will be Chivu’s third stint with the Nerazzurri, first as a player between 2007 and 2014, and later as a youth team coach.
The 44-year-old returned to coaching in February, stepping in at Parma to replace Fabio Pecchia. In his first senior job since leaving Inter’s academy last summer, Chivu helped the club avoid relegation and secure safety in Serie A.
He now faces a much bigger challenge, with his first game in charge of Inter set for next week in the Club World Cup, against Monterrey at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.
Chivu inherits a squad that looked completely out of steam in their heavy 5-0 loss to PSG in the Champions League final just a few weeks ago. That defeat marked the end for Inzaghi, who has since taken over at Saudi side Al Hilal.
