Ferland Mendy is one of three Real Madrid players currently not training with the rest of the squad under Xabi Alonso in the team’s shortened pre-season.

The French left-back suffered an injury in late April and had to undergo surgery, meaning he missed the end of the season, including the FIFA Club World Cup under the new manager.

Reports have suggested that it is unlikely that Mendy will be able to return in tie for the start of the season and might even miss the beginning of the UEFA Champions League campaign.

However, according to the latest update from journalist Arancha Rodriguez, Mendy has set himself the goal of returning for the start of the La Liga season.

Real Madrid kick off the new league campaign on August 19 against Osasuna, giving the French defender two weeks to recover from his injury.

As per the update, Mendy is already working in the gym at the club facilities and aims to make himself available to manager Alonso for the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

With Real Madrid signing Alvaro Carreras this summer, they now have three left-backs in the squad. As such, it has been suggested that one of Fran Garcia or Mendy could be offloaded before the transfer window closes.

With Garcia impressing in Alonso’s system at the Club World Cup, signs pointed towards Mendy being the one to be shown the doors.

However, the former Olympique Lyon defender has no intention of leaving Real Madrid this summer.

The player signed a new contract with Real Madrid last year, which runs until 2027, although it has not been announced officially yet – something that has surprised his camp.

Either way, Mendy aims to stay and fight for his place at the Santiago Bernabeu and is working hard to be ready for the start of the new season.
