Arsenal’s evolving recruitment strategy appears to be gaining clarity as incoming Sporting Director Andrea Berta begins to shape his transfer blueprint for the summer. According to GiveMeSport, Berta is “intent on signing” two high-calibre targets: Wolves forward Matheus Cunha and Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

This aligns with earlier reporting from TEAMtalk, which had already outlined Arsenal’s admiration for Cunha and their advanced interest in Zubimendi—particularly with personal terms already verbally agreed for the latter.
While Arsenal continue to mount a title push—currently second in the Premier League behind Liverpool—the club’s long-term ambitions remain firmly focused on squad refinement. The Gunners’ return to the Champions League quarter-finals further underscores the need to bolster depth and maintain quality across multiple competitions.
GiveMeSport’s report suggests Berta views Cunha and Zubimendi as essential to the next phase of the project. “The Gunners have new sporting director Andrea Berta overseeing the incomings, and early indications show that he is intent on signing Matheus Cunha and Zubimendi – from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Real Sociedad respectively – in particular.”

Cunha’s 13 goals and four assists in 24 league starts have made him a standout in a Wolves team that has quietly impressed this season. His dynamic forward play could inject renewed unpredictability into Arsenal’s frontline.
Zubimendi, meanwhile, has contributed modestly in terms of goals (2) and assists (2) for Sociedad this season, but his metronomic passing and positional awareness are well-suited to Mikel Arteta’s tactical structure. The €60m (£50.5m) release clause looks steep, but the Spanish midfielder’s profile aligns closely with the manager’s long-standing preference for technical, press-resistant players in midfield.

Berta’s push for Cunha could signal changes in wide attacking roles. As GiveMeSport notes: “The creativity and goal threat of Cunha is needed, and the north Londoners will assess offers for Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard in the summer as part of their considerations regarding wide attacking options.”
Cunha reportedly has a £62.5m release clause—meaning Arsenal could spend upwards of £113m if they pursue both targets. It’s a bold outlay, but one that suggests conviction from the club’s new leadership.

This is the kind of ambition Arsenal fans have long craved. After years of watching rivals move decisively in the transfer market, it finally feels like they’re the ones setting the tone. If Andrea Berta really is pushing hard to sign both Matheus Cunha and Martin Zubimendi, that signals a serious statement of intent—and one that could close the gap on the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Cunha brings something Arsenal have been missing in attack: a relentless, aggressive dribbler who doesn’t just wait for chances—he creates them. With 13 goals already this season, imagine what he could do in an Arteta system surrounded by elite talent.
Zubimendi feels like the perfect long-term partner for Declan Rice. He reads the game beautifully, keeps things ticking in possession, and never looks flustered. The fact personal terms are already reportedly agreed is massive.
More importantly, these aren’t speculative links—they’re targets Berta is intent on landing. That shows direction, clarity, and purpose from the new structure. And if they’re assessing Martinelli and Trossard’s futures, it’s because Arsenal are ready to evolve, not stand still.
