FLW's QPR fan pundit has given his verdict on the ownership's connection to the supporters

QPR’s ownership situation has undergone a lot of changes in recent years, which has also led to a lot of moves behind the scenes.

The current co-owners are Malaysian businessman Ruben Gnanalingam, Indian Lakshmi Mittal and family, and American Richard Reilly.

Amit Bhatia has taken on the role of chairman, with Christian Nourry currently the chief executive officer.

Tony Fernandes had also been involved for quite some time, initially buying shares in 2011, but he departed the London club last year.

Nourry has taken on the role of spokesman for the owners, with the club fighting in the Championship for the 10th season in a row, with Martí Cifuentes in charge of the first team squad.

When asked about the connection between the supporters and the owners, FLW’s QPR fan pundit claimed that communication from the trio of owners could be improved, particularly from Reilly.

However, he has praised the impact that Nourry has had since becoming CEO at the start of 2024.

“I think since the switcharound with the board, in terms of Lee Hoos moving roles and him not being so much involved in terms of he was always in interviews and the man who came out and spoke about things off the pitch, now we’ve got Amit Bhatia, who is still involved but you don’t see much of him,” Moir told Football League World.

“I think really since Christian Nourry came in as the new CEO, everything has gone through him.

“He seems very open and transparent when it comes to speaking, whether that’s doing interviews with the club, or just making statements and talking about things on and off the pitch.

“He’s been class.

“But in terms of the actual owners, Ruben, Amit and the American Richard Reilly, you never hear from him, and you’d say really improvement is needed in that respect.

“Because you just don’t hear from them much, but I do think it’s because we’ve got the new CEO in.

“Like I said, everything goes through him, and I think that’s pleasing the fans enough because he talks a lot of sense, every decision he’s made so far has been spot on.

“You could say, what would the owners say differently to what he’s been saying, but I think, myself included, I’d like to hear more from Richard Reilly because he hasn’t really spoken at all.

“I’d like to know more about his involvement with the club.

“Bar that, I’m satisfied by how it is at the moment, and long may it continue with Christian Nourry in charge, that’s for sure.”

QPR league position

QPR have made a difficult start to the new Championship season, with just one win from their opening eight games.

Cifuentes’ side sit 22nd in the table, having drawn four and lost three, having failed to win any of their last four games.

The Spaniard will be hoping his side can get back to winning ways this weekend ahead of the October international break.

QPR take on Derby County at Pride Park on Saturday in a 3pm kick-off.

Nourry has earned QPR supporters’ trust so far

The CEO acts on behalf of the ownership, and carries through the vision and strategy that they want for the club.

On that basis, the owners themselves may not say much to the fans, but Nourry has done a good job of doing so in their place.

It’s been a difficult start to the season under Cifuentes, but the manager is unlikely to be under much pressure just yet, and Nourry giving him the patience to turn around their results will play well with supporters who have come to like the 42-year-old quite a lot.
