Danny Rohl has reportedly left Sheffield Wednesday
Premier League and Bundesliga-linked Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has decided to leave the South Yorkshire club.
That's according to talkSPORT, who have reported on Thursday morning that the 36-year-old will quit his post at Hillsborough.
The German manager is understood to have job offers lined up following his Owls departure, with strong links to Southampton emerging alongside interest from the Premier League, Bundesliga and Saudi Arabia.
Rohl signed a contract extension with Wednesday in May 2024, on which he has two years remaining. His release clause is said to be around £5 million.
Despite this, the coach appears to have reached an agreement with the club’s hierarchy to part ways - a claim echoed in a new interview published by Kicker, in which Röhl reportedly confirmed that “he has agreed with the club’s executives” to move on.
Interest in Röhl has gathered pace over the final months of the season, with Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Fulham reportedly identifying him as a potential successor to their current managers.
Southampton and Leicester City have also been credited with interest, while a potential return to RB Leipzig - where Röhl previously worked under Ralf Rangnick - has also been mooted.
talkSPORT's most recent report also links the 36-year old to Saudi Arabia.
In an interview with RB Live, Röhl hinted at his ambition to take the next step in his career, telling the German outlet:
"The Bundesliga is, of course, a top choice. After all, I grew up with the Bundesliga. But the Premier League is also a dream. I’m currently very excited to see what happens this summer."
Röhl joined Sheffield Wednesday in October 2023, inheriting a side rock bottom of the Championship table with just three points from their opening 11 games under Xisco Munoz.
His appointment - after spells as assistant to Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich and the German national team - was described himself as a “suicide mission” according to Kicker, but the coach quickly restored order.
What followed was one of the most impressive turnarounds in recent Championship history. Röhl guided Wednesday to safety on the final day of the 23/24 season, implementing a high-pressing, tactically intelligent style of football that won admirers across the league.
His ability to galvanise a squad low on confidence, alongside his clear footballing identity, quickly made him one of the most sought-after young managers in Europe.
Rohl's 24/25 stint with the Owls has been nothing if not turbulent: the South Yorkshire side briefly flirted with a play-off position before off field issues - late HMRC bills and unpaid staff and player wages - appeared to influence on-pitch performances.
Whether driven by ambition, financial instability at Hillsborough, or a combination of both, Rohl’s impending exit feels less like a shock and more like a culmination.
