Yann Sommer played one of the best games of his career last night, as Inter beat Barcelona 4-3 in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at San Siro to leave the tie with a ridiculous 7-6 aggregate score.

Making seven saves, the 36-year-old former Swiss international provided some huge moments to rescue his side against the Blaugrana’s youthful, often Lamine Yamal-powered counters.

One of a plethora of particularly notable saves arrived when, at 2-1, Barcelona were well on their way to equalising with three men bombing forward. However, Sommer miraculously managed to stop Eric Garcia’s effort superbly as he flew across his goal line.

Speaking on Ziggo Sport, Wesley Sneijder insisted that Sommer will go down in the history books if Inter win the competition. He claimed, “that man deserves a statue here.”

It was interesting to hear the former midfield maestro’s thoughts, even if he was late to the broadcast and kept Sam van Royen waiting.

“Normally Wesley would have been here. He’s late. Was he always late?”, says Van Royen. “Yes, always”, co-pundit Júlio César responded.

“Wesley has always been a bit of a latecomer,” laughed César. “But on the field, he was always on time, and that’s what counts. I hope to see him again soon. I’ve been talking to him on WhatsApp lately.”
