‘Huge, merciless’ – National media goes crazy for 9/10 Rangers player v Nice | OneFootball

Rangers delivered a close-to-perfection performance as they won 4-1 against Nice in the Europa League on Thursday night in France.

The Gers, who were lacklustre in their 1-1 draw against Dundee United at Ibrox last week, produced a fantastic performance on their European travels.

Despite a strong start from the home side, Rangers took a 3-0 lead at the break, with goals coming from Vaclav Cerny, Mohamed Diomande and Hamza Igamane.

In the second half, Igamane scored again to spark bedlam in the away end.

It came as a shock that Philippe Clement decided to start with Igamane, but the 22-year-old has justified his inclusion.

BBC Sport has hailed his effort as “merciless”, and the Daily Record described it as “huge”. They gave him a 9/10 rating.

The Scottish newspaper wrote: “Huge chance for the Moroccan kid as he was handed a first Euro start. He took it in some style with two coolly taken goals and assist.”

Rangers forward Hamza Igamane was outstanding

The Gers could have been two goals down inside the opening ten minutes, but they took full advantage of defensive calamities from the home side.

Nice were disastrous at the back, but Rangers still needed to capitalise on it. It was a night when almost everything went perfectly for them.

Dujon Sterling delivered a spectacular performance, while John Souttar was immense for the Bears once again.

Diomande, Nico Raskin and Connor Barron were brilliant, while Jack Butland was outstanding.

Rangers fans are used to seeing Cyriel Dessers’s frustrating play, but Igamane could now become a potential new leader to lead the line.

There is still rawness to his ruthless approach, and his assist for Cerny’s goal was really impressive.

Rangers have found it difficult to raise their levels in the domestic games, and there lies a big challenge.

They face St Johnstone away from Ibrox in their next Scottish Premiership game on Sunday, and the Bears must look to pick up all three points.
