Bojan Radulovic's future at Huddersfield Town appears uncertain as he drops down the pecking order.
Huddersfield Town have begun their League One campaign in the best way possible, winning their opening two fixtures against Leyton Orient and Reading without conceding a goal.
Lee Grant is at the helm at Huddersfield, in what is his first managerial job of his career.
Grant, 42, spent three years as a coach at Ipswich Town under Kieran McKenna after joining the Tractor Boys in May 2022 and switched from Suffolk to South Yorkshire this summer to take the reins at the Accu Stadium.
The former Manchester United, Stoke City and Derby County goalkeeper has gotten off to the best possible start with the Terriers, defeating last year's League One play-off finalists Leyton Orient 3-0 in their opening fixture before a 2-0 victory away at Reading last weekend.
On both occasions, Grant has set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, leaving room for just one out-and-out striker starting the game, meaning some players have dropped in the pecking order.
In the striking options, Grant has Joe Taylor, Dion Charles and Alfie May, the latter who joined this summer from Birmingham, meaning Spanish forward Bojan Radulovic has dropped way down the pecking order.
Both May and Taylor started in Huddersfield's win over Reading over the weekend, with Taylor deputising out wide to facilitate May, whilst Charles was introduced late on from the bench.
Radulovic has failed to even make the bench in either fixture, a clear statement from Grant of where he stands in the list of forwards at the club.
The Spaniard initially joined Huddersfield in January 2024 from Finnish club HJK Helsinki and signed a three-and-a-half-year deal whilst the club was still in the Championship, but could only score one goal in 11 appearances as the Terriers suffered relegation.
His output in League One didn't get any better last season, scoring just once in 17 games before spending the second half of the season on-loan in the Eredivisie with Fortuna Sittard.
Now, with Taylor, May and Charles all proven goalscorers at League One level ahead of him, an exit is surely on the cards.
The Spaniard had been prolific in Finland for Helsinki in the first half of the season before arriving in South Yorkshire, scoring 15 goals and adding two assists in 19 league games, which led then-manager Darren Moore to sign the forward.
Less than a month after signing Radulovic, Moore was sacked, with Huddersfield having had three permanent managers, including Grant since then, as neither Andre Bretienreiter nor Michael Duff could get the best out of the 25-year-old.
The change of managers clearly wouldn't have helped Radulovic to settle at the Accu Stadium, but now under Grant it appears as though his time at the club is over.
The Spaniard still has two years remaining on his Huddersfield contract, and it remains to be seen whether the Terriers will look to move him on permanently or sanction a loan move for him.
Whatever the case, Radulovic doesn't appear to be a part of Grant's plans, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him depart the club before the end of the window.
At 25, and with goalscoring pedigree on the continent at least, Radulovic could command the sort of fee which would allow Huddersfield to reinvest in other areas of the pitch, with another striker evidently not needed in West Yorkshire.
It would, of course, appear the best option for all parties, as Huddersfield need to move on players who do not fit into Grant's system and thinking, whereas Radulovic ought to be intent on finding a permanent home where he can rediscover his goalscoring touch once again.
