Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has been admitted to hospital and will miss the club's upcoming Premier League match against Manchester United on Sunday.
The 47-year-old sought medical attention late on Friday after "feeling unwell for a number of days," according to the club’s statement.
It continued: "Medical staff kept Eddie in hospital overnight for further tests, which are ongoing. He is conscious and talking with his family, and is continuing to receive expert medical care."
The club also expressed their support, adding: "Everyone at Newcastle United extends their best wishes to Eddie for a speedy recovery, and further updates will follow in due course."
No additional details regarding Howe's illness or condition have been disclosed.
In Howe’s absence, assistant managers Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will take charge for the visit of Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United to St James' Park.
Tindall had already stepped in for Howe at a pre-match press conference on Friday.
Last month, Howe led Newcastle to their first domestic trophy in 70 years, securing a deserved Carabao Cup final victory over Liverpool at Wembley.
Newcastle currently sit in seventh place in the Premier League standings.
