The Blades striker joined the club from Leicester City for £10m in January and FLW has taken a look at his estimated weekly wage compared to others

Sheffield United's deal to bring Tom Cannon to Bramall Lane from Leicester City was perhaps the biggest story of the January transfer window, after the striker was recalled from Stoke City to make his way to South Yorkshire.

The Blades beat promotion rivals Sunderland and Burnley for the services of the 22-year-old, signing him on a four-year contract for a fee reportedly around £10m.

He enjoyed a decent loan spell with the Potters, having moved to the bet365 Stadium in the summer, and he found the back of the net nine times for the Staffordshire side in the Championship. However, their lowly league position made it difficult to keep hold of him, with Leicester also looking to move him on permanently.

It has been a relatively quiet start to life under Chris Wilder for Cannon and Football League World has taken a look at how his wage at Sheffield United compares to some of the top strikers in the Championship.

How does Tom Cannon's wages at Sheffield United compare to other Championship strikers?

Despite being just 22, the forward has an incredibly high pedigree and this was proven with the amount of competition for his signature in both the summer and January transfer windows.

However, without too much experience, he is not quite one of the top earners in the Championship for strikers.

According to Capology's estimates, Cannon rakes in £25,000-a-week, with the website reporting that this is the same as his Sheffield United teammate, Kieffer Moore.

The second tier's highest earning forward is Leeds United's Patrick Bamford, with the website calculating his weekly wage to be a colossal £70,000. Injuries have stopped the 31-year-old from making an impact this season, and he is proving to be a costly asset for the Whites.

Joel Piroe, on the other hand, has taken the lead as Daniel Farke's first-choice striker for the majority of 2024/25, and he is proving to be a lot cheaper, as per Capology's estimates, at £15,000.

Josh Maja, has been West Bromwich Albion's main threat in front of goal throughout the first two thirds of the campaign, and his weekly wage is around the £17,000 mark.

Rhian Brewster, Callum Robinson, Lyle Foster and Daryl Dike complete the Championship's top five for highest earning forwards, while Cannon is down in eighth.

Sheffield United will need Tom Cannon to start firing consistently to live up to estimated salary

The race for promotion is incredibly close between the top four clubs in the second tier, and Sheffield United will need their £10m striker to start finding the back of the net on a consistent basis to ensure that they are one of the two sides to go back to the Premier League automatically.

Four of his nine goals in the Championship for Stoke came in one game, but in a side that will create more chances for him, there is a hope that he will fire in more often.

Nevertheless, Cannon is a Premier League striker in waiting, and with a bit more time and development, Sheffield United may just have the number nine that they have desired over the last few years.
