The 2024/25 Serie A season is set for a thrilling conclusion on Friday, May 23, with Napoli and Inter vying for the Scudetto on the final day.
Napoli lead the table with 79 points, just one ahead of Inter, who have 78. Both clubs will play simultaneously, with Napoli hosting Cagliari and Inter facing Como, to ensure fairness and avoid influencing each other's outcomes.
Napoli's destiny is in their own hands. A victory over Cagliari would secure their fourth Serie A title, regardless of Inter's result.
This is particularly significant as Napoli have been in strong form, with key players like Scott McTominay contributing significantly to their midfield dominance.
Additionally, Napoli's coach, Antonio Conte, will be absent due to a suspension, but his tactical influence has been evident throughout the season.
Inter, under the guidance of Simone Inzaghi, must defeat Como and hope for a Napoli slip-up to clinch the title.
Como have been in impressive form, winning six of their last seven matches, which could pose a challenge for Inter.
With Lautaro Martínez and Davide Frattesi returning to the line-up, Inter's attacking options are bolstered, but they will need to capitalise on these strengths to overcome Como and keep their title hopes alive.
Should both teams finish level on points, the Serie A title will be decided by a one-off playoff match on Monday, May 26.
This rule, introduced in the 2022/23 season, stipulates that head-to-head results determine the champion in case of a points tie.
Given that Napoli and Inter have drawn both of their encounters this season, a playoff would be required to determine the winner but can only happen if Napoli lose and Inter draw, leaving them on the same number of points.
The final day of Serie A promises to be a spectacle, with both Napoli and Inter having clear paths to the title.
Napoli's home advantage and current form make them slight favourites but Inter's resilience and attacking prowess mean the race is far from decided.
Football fans worldwide will be eagerly watching as these two giants battle for the coveted Scudetto.
